Brasilia - In another chapter in the investigation of corruption in the capital of Brasil, known as Operation Pandora’s Box, the Federal District Legislative Chamber (“CLDF”) has voted by 16 to 3 to expel deputy Eurides Brito (PMDB).
Brito was one of the three deputies filmed accepting money from the whistleblower, Durval Barbosa. In her case, she dropped wads of money (reportedly R$30,000) into a huge purse. But unlike the other deputies, who resigned rather than face forfeiture of office [this barnyard gate-size loophole in the law, which allowed politicians caught in misdeeds to leave office and run again in the next election, has been closed by the new Clean Criminal Record Law (“Ficha Limpa”)]
